New Semester, New beginnings

A new semester has begun, and with it other exciting, new beginnings! The old gym has been renovated and now holds three new classrooms. The professors and students have enjoyed getting to use these new facilities. Located in the front of this building is the most exciting new thing around here- a coffee shop! The students are so excited to have their own coffee shop right here on campus! “The Daily Grind” has become a favorite place to do homework or to just simply hang out and drink coffee! We are so thankful for how God has blessed our campus! If you’re ever in the area, stop by and try a latte or iced tea from “The Daily Grind”!

Hallelujah Even Here

by Kailyn Hollabaugh,

When the Thanksgiving season comes around, social media floods with posts that express thankfulness for family, friends, etc. It is a subconscious action to give thanks or praise when we feel blessed. Yet, what happens when we face trials and perplexities where no ray of hope seems to touch our hearts? Those sentimental feelings of Thanksgiving time seem intangible when faced with grief or anxiety. Where is the feeling of gratitude when, as Isaiah says, “though passest through the waers,” or “when thou walkest through the fire?”

It is not in our human nature to exclaim praises of thanks when faced with a discouraging problem. However, though we may not feel extremely thankful when placed in a difficult situation, we can praise the One whose ways are higher than ours. Our thanks can be founded on the truth that Jesus is with us through each trial we face, knowing that He has already overcome the battle.

Consider Job, a man who encountered every hardship imaginable. Yet through it all Job never once turned his back on God, neither did his relationship with God waver. Job 1:20 states, “…the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Here we can see that Job still offers up praise to the Lord amid affliction. There is a song that states, “Hallelujah even here…” Hallelujah even when we question the circumstances we go through; hallelujah even when our world is seemingly crashing around us; hallelujah even if we lose everything we hold dear.

Romans speaks of rejoicing in the hope of the Glory of God, encouraging us that we have access to faith in His grace. This is the basis of why we as Christians can give thanks within adversity. Romans also expresses, “…but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:” Hope is the reason that Christians can give thanks in the middle of the turmoil. Hope is assured that God knows the end of each trial, and that He has prepared a way through.

Learning Through Experience

by Chet Waters, Senior

Recently I was thinking that as young people, we are often looking to the Lord for “answers”. So often in my life, I have seen God give me an “answer” in ways I had not expected. He sees what our learning styles are, and what makes us understand Him better, and uses that to help us mature in Him. Do not be discouraged when you go through a hard time. The “silver-lining” in that difficulty is what puts within us a level of understanding; a maturity that will help us to grow in life.

II Peter 3:18 states “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen.” If we look back at the times where God showed us through the circumstances in our life how we are to mature, we will see that it benefited us the most. If someone were to tell you to just grow up, that does not help usually. However, when God shows us through people, work, difficulties, and tough situations, we take it to heart and we mature in that. Experiencing God working in our lives will bring us to that understanding that we need to have Him. His teaching style is the best, and if we allow Him, it will help us grow the most.
